Scary Story

Police raided the house of an editor for Gizmodo on Friday and seized computers and other equipment. The raid was part of an investigation into the leak of a prototype iPhone that the site obtained for a blockbuster story last week. Now, a legal expert has raised questions about the legality of the warrant used in the raid.

I will make my own controller that works with Ableton by the end of this year. How many buttons is really up to me. That is why I am not making any predictions. Above is my Arduino kit. Basically the building blocks to building your own monome controller. I have found all of the individual parts. Now it’s just a matter of figuring out all this C code. My brain is on overdrive.

One More Change

Can’t make up my mind. One more banner change and the site will be finished. The new editor helps me design so fast, and css sheets makes it easy to change the site. I am working on a new banner. Once that is finished the site will be complete. Hope all of the info here has been helping people. As the classes get more detailed the site will update with the class material. It gives the students reference and the public help to know what I like to teach with Ableton. If you need to schedule one on one time, let me know.

New i5, i7 Chip

Did you see the new toys Apple put out besides the iPad? Think about the new 4 core chips from intel and get ready for the 64 bit revolution. Strange to think how fast older software would run on these newer chips. I want to keep OSX 10.5 for that reason. Faster workflow without having to buy all the newest crap either.

MIDI Clinic

Can’t wait for the MIDI clinic on April 18th. Going to bring some fun toys and really help connect Ableton to hardware in an easy to understand way. Hope everyone who makes it remembers to bring a controller. Mapping is also going to be a part of the clinic. Templates and the whole 9 yards!

Ableton Live Tip

Here is a great example of how I build Audio Effects Racks in Live. My two live set favorites right now are these 16 effects. This is basically how they are built together. Notice one macro button related to the effects dry wet, on/off, time decay, and other parameters. When the knob is down, the effect is off but as soon as I turn the knob the effect turns on, and then you adjust the dry wet and time based parameters the more you turn the knob. Turning it back to zero turns the effect off. Great for live performance, studio idea’s, and for abstracting on any sound. Remember that optimizing one button to do the maximum to a sound is beneficial. It leaves you more room to map other macro buttons to other things. Also, when using a great controller like the Apc40, Livid OHM, or anything you can have the “hot 8” with, will allow macro’s in Audio Effects Rack, Midi Effects Racks, and Instrument Racks to be swappable upon highlighting the plug-in when in a selected channel. This allows you to bounce from one thing to another changing what the “hot 8” do as you move from instrument, to effect, to midi plug-in ect.... Any questions, mail me.

Performance Cables

How many cables do you need when you play out? Up to almost 30.
